2 New A’ Design Awards for Studio Kali

International A’ Design Award & Competition recently announced the best designs of 2020 – 2021. Best products, projects and services worldwide that demonstrate superior design, technology and creativity are rewarded with the A’ Design Award; the symbol of excellence in design and innovation. There are five different levels of distinction: Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze and Iron A’ Design Awards are distributed annually in several different design disciplines. Fulden Topaloğlu received Silver A’ Design Award 2021 for Ege Collection and Iron A’ Design Award for Yakamoz Collection in the category of Furniture, Decorative Items and Homeware Design.

Both collections are inspired by the designer’s admiration and love for the Aegean sea as well as the centuries old craft traditions of Anatolian kilim weaving. The kilim rugs in the Ege collection reflect an admiration for the visual and emotional expressiveness of the sea surface, with its fluid movements, and hues of color reflections that create a relaxing effect on the human psyche. Having blue Aegean Sea as its muse, the name for this kilim rug series is Ege, the Turkish name for Aegean.

Whereas Yakamoz Collection takes its inspiration from the poetry of light reflections on the sea surface. The abstract patterns of the Yakamoz kilim series represent alternating color transitions created by reflected light. The name Yakamoz comes from the Turkish word meaning bioluminescence, especially referring to the beautiful sight of reflected moonlight over the sea.

Both collections merge the sensibilities of centuries old craft traditions of Anatolian kilim weaving with a modern, artisanal and sensual design approach. Inspired by cultural craft traditions and the beautiful Aegean sea, they establishe a contemporary expression at the intersection of design, craft and art. Handwoven by Anatolian weavers using 100% sheep wool, the kilims in the collections aim to bring the Aegean spirit full of sea, wind, sand and nature to the interior space.
