Studio Kali

Studio Kali is an Istanbul based, award-winning design studio providing multidisciplinary design services, as well as a collection of products under the Studio Kali brand.

We are driven by the idea that creativity, determination and a passion for what you do are the key ingredients of everything that gives us inspiration in life… And most of all, that inspiration is sacred… That’s why we choose to call ourselves Kali, where Kali is a shorthand for Kaliope (Calliope), the muse of poetry and eloquence and the chief of all muses in Greek mythology.

Another underlying motive in the foundation of the studio is our responsibility and contribution towards our environment and society, which we put into action by running a responsible business. We contribute 5% of our annual net profits to social and environmental causes we care about. We love working with companies and individuals that share our values.

Our services focus on product design, furniture design, packaging design, design strategy and branding & graphics. Whereas our product collection currently covers furniture, decorative homeware, and photographic and artistic prints.

Fulden Topaloğlu

Founder & Designer

Studio Kali is founded by Fulden Topaloğlu, Ph.D. Fulden graduated from Boğaziçi University Industrial Engineering Department in 2004, and received her master’s (2009) and doctorate (2016) degrees from Istanbul Technical University, Department of Industrial Product Design.

During her professional life, she worked as an industrial designer in Istanbul based design studio Tasarımüssü and as design group manager in Koleksiyon Mobilya. She carried out a wide range of design and development projects for companies from different industrial sectors, including furniture, accessories, home textiles, packaging, jewelry, chocolate, graphics, and houseware designs for renowned brands in the Turkish market. Now she channels her passion and experience towards providing design services under Studio Kali, as well as building a meaningful and responsible brand with its own product collection.

As an academician and a strong believer in the value of sharing industrial experience as well as “continual learning through teaching”, she teaches as an adjunct lecturer at Istanbul Medipol University, Department of Industrial Design. Her academic work and articles on design management and design education has been published in leading academic journals such as The Design Journal, Design Management Review and International Journal of Art & Design Education.

Product Collection

The products in Studio Kali’s product collection are specifically created with the intention of uniting craft sensibilities with design, poetry and a sense of wonder; always adding to the mix, a love of nature, art and natural materials. We focus on creating products and objects that we love to use, which are highly influenced by the Mediterranean spirit and geography.

We believe that the objects around us, their forms, colors, materials and patterns, they tell us stories, stories made of emotions, places, and memories… Beyond their function, it is the emotional expressiveness of the objects around us that adds meaning, character and richness to our everyday life.

With this in mind, we create products at the intersection of craft and design, to honor our deep appreciation for the worlds of arts, crafts, culture and nature, and to whisper their poetry, sense of wonder and inspiration into everyday life…
